Winter Weather Woes

Weather like this certainly makes one thankful for a warm house, a car that runs and nice cozy blankets!  Really, why did the nice pre-spring days have to leave?  Was that groundhog lying?  What is the scoop with the snow??

So, the day started off with some sleet -- but the temperatures were hovering around the freezing mark, so the sleet did not accumulate.  Bonus!  Then around 3:30 or so on Thursday afternoon, the flakes started flying.  I am talking heavy, can't really see in front of you, kind of snow.  Yes, this was serious.

I decided to leave work around 4:30.  I headed out to the parking lot to get my car cleared off, and ready for the trek home.  Groceries were loaded from my pre-work morning purchase.  The defrost was working hard, and I cleared all the windows.  Then at 4:50 p.m.  I was off!

I headed up my normal route, only to discover that traffic was at a standstill.  An ambulance and firetruck drove by.  Oh dear -- an accident.  So, I made a u-turn at my first opportunity, and tried route number two.  Still no dice.  As traffic was stopped again, another ambulance made its way by.  Ok, I saw an out, and after 20 minutes of waiting -- I made my exit.  Off to route number three.

This route involved a bit of a hill, and well, let's just say that many cars were not faring well.  Needless to say, this was by a college apartment complex, and college students are ever so helpful.  They would come out onto the road in droves, and push flailing cars up the hill.  It was quite the site to behold!  Thankfully, the Cavalier in front of me made it, with their help.

I turned north, and headed home.  I clicked on the four wheel drive, and made it safely home.  Mr. Fixit was waiting with open arms -- for the groceries and had cleared the snow to the door.  What a wonderful ending to a harried day!
